The good news is that we're back in DE and we're still speaking to each other.
The bad news is as follows:
*We left the hotel at 7:00 this morning after a night of deliberating if the car would make it for the rest of the trip with a failing fuel pump - we decided not to risk it.
*Snowball had a few "fun to shut herself off while driving" moments
*Route 66 headed onto the Beltway in DC was backed up for 5 miles
*The beltway (495) was also backed up for miles. After 2 hours of sitting in traffic Snowball was overheating and Z needed to use two feet to drive. Temp was up to 240 and the car had a very strong fuel smell.
*We got off because Snowball was getting close to a very bad problem and went into Bethesda MD. The overflow from the expressway made that a gridlock as well. We found a gas station and filled up and used the bathroom. I checked Cookie, she found a way back to DE that did not involve the beltway.
*We got back on already on 95, which was slow but moving.
*Cookie told us to take 895 which Z has never heard of thru a different tunnel than he knows, but we tried it. Big mistake. We got to the toll before the tunnel and traffic was stopped. We say there for another 20 minutes before traffic was moving again, no idea of why that was stopped.
But we made it back! Snowball and I made a deal last night - I told her if she got us home she would get a brand new fuel pump, all for herself. Nothing like bribing the car. She did it, we made it back! That's all for now, my eyes are closing...more to come when I'm fully conscious!
