Z and I traveled to New Port Richey FL this weekend for his best friend's wedding. No Julia Roberts, though. We flew down Friday morning and are now sitting at the Tampa airport waiting for our flight. Thursday night after work I drove down to DE and got to Z's house around 11:30. I had a small detour when my air pressure was low on one of my tires; thank goodness for the air gauge in my dashboard. That done, it was an uneventful trip.
Friday morning at 4:00 the alarm went off - I am not that good on four hours of sleep. Once we got to the airport there was, of course, an issue with Z's license. Apparently the security sticker was missing. Going through security the lady wanted to know "what happened to it?" We didn't know. DMV, here he comes!
As some of you may know, I am not a good flyer. Luckily my doc gave me some anti-anxiety pills. I took one, and wasn't really feeling it, so I took another one. .5 milligrams, how bad can it be? Once we were in the air we found out. I was in a little bit of a la la land state. I think I even fell asleep for a while!
We landed safely, and headed over to pick up the rental car. We were scheduled for a PT Cruiser. Ewwww. The lovely man at the desk offered us an upgrade to an Infiniti G37 for an extra $40/day. Z looked to me for help, I said "Oh yeah". We ended up with the Infiniti. Push button start, 330 HP, back up camera. Nice! It may be my next car. If I can get past the fact that it's a Nissan. We'll see. Once Z got into the gas, I think he was pretty happy to have upgraded.
We met a friend of Z's from high school at Chilis (yum!) for lunch. They hadn't seen each other in 15 years, it was a lot of fun. After that we were able to check into our hotel, which was a Hilton Resort, Homewood Suites (excellent deal on Hotels.com!). When we checked in the desk warned us they were having a reception there that night but we should not be affected, they were supposed to park down the street. More on that later. Z tossed me Cookie to put the church address in, as we were headed over that night for rehearsal. I grabbed the invitation and put what I thought was the address in; keep in mind I was still out of it from the pills. One of us fell asleep almost immediately after that. When it was time to get ready it was not easy to wake me up. Z thought I was dead, but no such luck!
We headed over to the church address that I had put into Cookie and instead arrived at the reception hall. Oops. That's the last time I'll be trusted to do that! It was okay, we called and got the correct address and made it there with two minutes to spare. Rehearsal went well, then it was off to (guess where!), Chilis! There were about 20 people there, we totally invaded. Dinner was a lot of fun, then back to the bride and groom's house for a bit of final instruction.
Back at the hotel we were not able to find an empty spot. So much for their promise that we wouldn't be affected. I drove around the parking lot twice, getting quite angry the more I looked. I squealed to a stop at the front lobby door, stormed in and loudly proclaimed "We're staying here and we can't get a spot because of these people, I need someone to move their car so I can park". Sometimes it pays off to be a pushy broad. A man followed us out and proceeded to move his jeep. Problem solved. Almost. Once we were in our room there was an endless trail of women loudly walking down the hall. One was so loud I stuck my head out the door and asked them to keep in down. She asked her companion "is she serious?" Oh yeah, come closer and see how serious she is!
Saturday we ate our complimentary breakfast at the hotel, then the groom called and asked us to go to breakfast, so we ate again at Cracker Barrel. I dropped off Z, the groom and a groomsman at the groom's mom's house for their day of fun. I even made it back to the hotel all by myself! Yay!
Reception at the church was great, no tears or anything! Bride was beautiful, groom was very handsome! Then off to the reception, which was really fun! They had a photo booth, and one half of the strip went to us and the other half went to the bride and groom, in a scrapbook, excellent idea, wonderful presentation. We visited the photo booth four times, I peer pressured Z into it.
Today we had breakfast at the hotel with the bride and groom, then off to the airport. Time to turn in the wonderful rental car. Oh well. Now we're sitting at the airport, and of course our flight into Philly is delayed. So far an hour and a half.
